Is an Automated Car Wash Safe for Your Tesla?
Tesla drivers often ask us: “Is it safe to run my Tesla through your car wash?”
Start with the owner’s manual for your exact model and model year, then check the wash type before entering. A wash mode setting does not make every wash suitable for every vehicle.
Check your manufacturer’s instructions
Tesla’s current Model 3 manual specifies touchless equipment when using an automatic wash. It describes Car Wash Mode and Enable Free Roll as distinct controls. Follow the Model 3 cleaning instructions and your vehicle’s own manual.
Speak with the location team first
Before entering either Brightworks location, tell the team your model and discuss its wash requirements. If you cannot confirm that the equipment and service meet your manufacturer’s instructions, do not enter the tunnel.
What about other EVs?
Check your owner’s manual for car wash guidance. Instructions can differ by vehicle and model year; do not assume that another EV’s settings apply to yours.
